2024 is finally here with an intriguing anime lineup ready for fans. Here’s a list of the top 15 highly anticipated upcoming anime series.

Undoubtedly, 2023 has been an exciting year for anime shows. From new seasons of Vinland Saga and Jujutsu Kaisen to new additions in the anime world, such as Oshi no Ko and Frieren, the year has brought us a plethora of hits.

Naturally, 2024 cannot fall behind, and an incredible lineup is ready for us. So far, the Spring and Summer seasons have announced most of their series, while several series have yet to reveal their release windows.

We list the fifteen most highly anticipated upcoming anime series in 2024, from exciting sequels to new additions to the anime world. We will update this space once there are more announcements, so stay tuned!

10. Blue Lock Season 2

  • Release date/window: October, 2024
  • Studio: 8bit
  • Cast: Tasuku Kaito, Kazuki Ura, Souma Saito

Blue Lock, a strategy developed by football icon Ego Jinpachi, aims to create the world’s greatest egotist striker. Season 2 will follow the antics of star footballer Yoichi Isagi, who has enlisted in the Blue Lock Project under the tutelage of football enigma Ego Jinpachi. Isagi, a prominent character in the franchise, is attempting to become the world’s best striker.

9. Re: ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3

  • Release date/window: October, 2024

  • Cast: Rie Takahashi, Yuusuke Kobayashi, Satomi Arai

The series still has to explain more about Satella and Emilia’s relationship, Echidna’s true motivations, and, most importantly, whether Rem will ever wake up from her profound slumber. New characters, including Liliana Masquerade and Capella Emerada, will undoubtedly bring their own brand of havoc to the table. Season 3 will cover Arc 5 and potentially Arc 6.

8. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest

  • Release date/window: July 7, 2024

  • Cast: Tetsuya Kakihara, Sayaka Ohara, Aya Hirano

One year after the fight with Alvarez and Acnologia, Natsu and his friends embark on a new quest that is more dangerous than ever. No one has completed this mission in a century, but the dangers ahead won’t stop Fairy Tail’s strongest team. As they travel to the Northern Continent, the guild recruits a new member who is full of mysteries.

7. Kimi ni Todoke Season 3

  • Cast: Mamiko Noto, Daisuke Namikawa, Yuichi Nakamura

After more than a decade of no news, fans had lost all hope of getting a new season of this Shojo classic. However, Netflix recently confirmed a sequel with the original cast’s return. Season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet, but this upcoming anime sequel will air in August 2024. 

The series follows an introvert, Sawako Kuronuma, who is feared among her schoolmates for her jet-black hair. However, she slowly begins to come out of her shell with the help of Shouta Kazehaya and her new friends.

6. Dandadan

  • Cast: Shion Wakayama, Natsuki Hanae, Mayumi Tanaka

The anime series will debut in October 2024, but the release window has yet to be revealed. The story follows Momo Ayase and her classmate Okarun. While Momo believes in ghosts, Okarun thinks aliens are real.

In order to prove themselves right, they make a bet, which soon creates a series of hilarious events. This story of young love centers around the chaotic events with ghosts, monsters, aliens, battles, and so on.

5.  Dragon Ball Daima

  • Cast: Masako Nozawa

Another addition to the Dragon Ball franchise is all set for its debut in October 2024. Dragon Ball Daima was announced during this year’s NYCC. Based on Akira Toriyama’s manga, the story follows Goku and his friends, who have all been transformed into children.

The cause of the conspiracy remains unknown. Now, it’s up to our heroes to undo the curse that caused this shift, and Toriyama promises that their journey will reveal mysteries of the Dragon Ball Universe.

4. My Hero Academia: You’re Next

  • Release date/window: August 2, 2024
  • Studio: Bones
  • Cast: Daiki Yamashita, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Ayane Sakura

My Hero Academia: You’re Next, the fourth anime movie in the franchise, will hit the Japanese theatres on August 2, 2024. The film was announced in Jump Festa 2024, along with a teaser and key visual. The mangaka Kōhei Horikoshi will serve as the general supervisor and original character designer.

The movie will have an original story and won’t be a continuation of the manga. However, the story will take place around the same time as where the anime is currently, with the collapse of a safe society.

3. Tower of God Season 2

  • Release date/window: July 7, 2024
  • Studio: The Answer Studio
  • Cast: Yuma Uchida, Taichi Ichikawa, Sayumi Watabe

Based on the popular manhwa of the same name, Tower of God is getting its sequel in July 2024. The first season created quite the buzz in 2020, leaving fans wanting more after a major cliffhanger. This left several unanswered questions, which will likely be revealed in Season 2.

The story is set in a world where a tower summons chosen people called “Regulars” and promises them to grant their deepest desires. However, only those who reach the top can make their wish come true.

2. Oshi no Ko Season 2

  • Release date/window: July 3, 2024
  • Studio: Doga Kobo
  • Cast: Takeo Ootsuka, Megumi Han, Manaka Iwami

The Oshi no Ko anime debuted in Spring 2023 and took the internet by storm. The story introduces a famous idol, Ai, who is murdered by one of her psychotic stalkers. However, as the plot unfolds, we realize that a mastermind planned the murder.

Season 2 will debut in 2024, but it has yet to get a release window. The first season adapts four volumes of the manga, which is a total of 37 chapters.

1. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Conflict

  • Cast: Masakazu Morita, Takayuki Sugou, Noriaki Sugiyama

The final arc of the Shonen classic Bleach has already been released in the first two parts, and the third course will debut in 2024. The sequel was announced with a minute-long teaser featuring the highly-anticipated fight between the main villain, Yhwach, and Squad Zero’s captain, Ichibe.

The preview also shows Ichigo and his friends storming the Soul King’s palace, which promptly collapses. The Thousand Year Blood War arc will have four parts in total.
